WorkLink Scenarios: Best Practices for Content Placement
The WorkLink App allow users (using compatible mobile devices) to place work instruction content in their environment.
An author can enable any or all of the three available placement modes for a project in WorkLink Create (Authoring Platform), while users will only see the mode(s) set up for their project when viewing on the WorkLink App.
Content Placement Modes and Best Practices
Object Placement Mode
This involves aligning your content directly on a specific object.
-
- Point the device camera at the object in order to match the outline to the object.
- Try viewing the object from different angles.
- Be in a well lit space.
- Ensure good contrast between the object and its background.
- You can also adjust the rotation of the line model in case you are unable to get in the right position.
Image Placement Mode
This involves using an Image Target for content placement.
-
- Image Target or Alignment Target contains texture-rich imagery that acts as an anchor point for the project. Image targets can be Scope Standard Markers (Download the pdf version here , you can also ask a Scope AR team member for physical markers) or Custom Image Targets (Customized Image targets are configured in WorkLink Create)
- Point the device camera at the desired Image target.
- Flat Surface: It is essential to have your Image Target as level as possible to be easily recognizable by the WorkLink app.
- Size Recommendations: Scope Standard markers are 100mm x 100mm, the recommended size for Image Target. Deviating too much from this standard size can affect tracking capabilities; please consult with the Scope AR Support team if you have any questions/concerns with a custom size.
- Surface Shine: Image Targets need to have a matte finish easily recognizable by the WorkLink app; glassy or shiny materials reflect more light from the surface, making the tracking hard/inefficient for the app.
Surface Placement Mode
This involves placing your content on a flat surface.
-
- Point the device camera at the desired surface.
- Be in a well lit space.
- Flat surfaces work best.
- Avoid reflective and dark surfaces.
- If your project is setup to use a customized placeholder, make sure you see the placeholder before placing content on surface.
