WorkLink Create: What is Default State and how does it work? (The master step of your project)
In a new project, with or without imported content, the single step which is in the project by default is the DEFAULT STATE of the project. Default state is included with every sequence. It is a powerful tool to control mass edits to subject matter within your project.
-
For your 3D content, this will generally mean that any model(s) added to the scene in Default State will be visible with their complete assemblies in every step of your project. It is a good idea to make any global changes to your scene in Default State before defining other steps.
-
Changes or settings applied to your project in Default State will apply across all steps of the associated sequence.
-
You can identify objects ( and children) that are linked to the Default State by the bar color differentiation in Object Properties and through out the entire project. In other words, the parts of an object with green bar are linked to the Default State while parts of an object added to the other steps of the project, excluding the Default state have red bar in Object Properties.
-
To enable and position camera(s) for interactive mode on all steps of your project, you should add and enable the camera in default state.
-
The following Window options are available for use in Default State: Sequence Editor, History, Object Properties, Step Hierarchy, Asset Library, Object Groups, 3D Asset Optimizer, Keybindings and Export. You will not be able to use the Timeline Editor, UI Editor, Checklist Editor and AR Trackers in the Default State.
Summary
-
Default State is the "Master" Step - It can be likened to the Master Slide in PowerPoint presentation, where the slide is not part of the presentation but it defines part of the standard content in all other slides linking to the master.
-
Below shows that a cube has been added to step 5 of the project. This cube is not a part of Default state, therefore it is marked "Red" in Step Hierarchy. Also, a rotation which deviates from the property in default state has been applied, hence the red bar. You can use the reset
button to revert back your Transform (Position, Rotation and Scale) changes to default state.
In conclusion, default state can serve as a safety net that allows a user to reset changes back to the Master (default) state.
