    Hi Greg,

We are currently in early stages of defining requirements for proper revision management for Create projects and app scenarios, including approval roles, document states, revision numbers and potential integrations with PLM systems. Start on this effort is planned for 2024.

A few things we are working on that could help with the effort until then:

    • Importing of metadata for CAD files processed on cloud. (all files except for .fbx) - this is already available, and visible in the object properties of a node.
This metadata could help you find out what revision the cad file used in your project was.
    • Importing of metadata for fbx files - planned for Q3 2023 - to display them in the object properties
    • Adding a description to a project and display it in the version history - so an author could use this system to tag projects manually with eg. a revision number. - planned for the second half of this year.
    • Replace Asset feature (right click on an asset in use): improved comparison display of old and new asset, showing deleted, added, and modified (new state). This can help you keeping a project up to date and see what has changed in CAD since the last revision. This is already available. We are also planning to expand the window with the possibility to add a column for metadata (eg. so revision numbers can be compared easily) - planned for end of this year.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

    Thank you Gilles.

It looks like my team will have to keep some good notes externally for the time being.

It sounds like bullet points 1, 2, and 4 are within Create. Is that right?

Can you share anything more about Bullet 3?

All 4 points are indeed within Create.

In regards to point 3, the current design we were envisioning as a first step, is to allow authors to add a description to a project. A first design can be seen in the image below.

The description would be part of a save file/version, so it can change over time.

The follow up feature on this description, is to also be able to display the description on the app side on the scenario page, as well as a column or mouse over info in the version history of a Create Project. In that sense you could use the description field to manually keep track of what state or revision a project was in, in past save files.

We are hoping these first 4 bullets will incrementally help while we move towards real revision management functionality in 2024.

    Thank you again Gilles.

If the description will show up in the CMS as a searchable column that would be an excellent stop gap until the more fully fledged revision management comes in 2024.

I'm excited to see these new features continue to be developed and included in the system.

Great, I will work with my colleagues to see how/when we can include that (description as a searchable column in the CMS) in our acceptance criteria. (internal ticket reference is 3021)

Thank you for providing this input and helping us to make the software better!
