Publish as Different Language or View with Different Language
Howdy, Community!
This is more of a feature idea or discussion topic than a feature request. I'm curious if other folks would be interested in more language features, or have better ideas for how to make WorkLink projects available in multiple languages.
The company I work for sells heavy equipment to many regions, who use various languages. The equipment and service procedures are mostly the same everywhere, only the language spoken is different.
It would be awesome if we could easily publish or view our projects in other languages.
Currently, when I need a project in another language, I duplicate the English version, go through every UI element, quiz/checklist element, callout, etc. I cut the English text, paste it into our secure on-premise Google Translate server, and then paste the alternate language back into the project. Sure, Google Translate is imperfect, but it’s not too bad. It gets us 90% of the way through translation. Someone who knows the local language can easily polish it from there.
What do you think about the idea of making a Create function like “Duplicate Project to New Language” with operators like “Japanese” or "German"?
Or, perhaps the publishing operation could passively include translation to several popular languages, then the end user could select their preferred language in the WorkLink app. This wouldn't give us the chance to polish the machine translated language, but it would be very easy to support all regions simultaneously and easier to manage the single project.
Thanks for any feedback and discussion Scope AR Community!

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for sharing your ideas on how to streamline localization in WorkLink! We are also curious to hear from other customers about how they are currently localizing their content and how we can make it easier to author, publish, and maintain it especially with all the other revisions that may occur throughout the lifecycle. I really like your idea of including built-in auto translation plus the ability to manually override.
There is more discovery to do on this, but I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts here and kicking off the discussion!
Thank you,
James

Hello,
I agree that a feature with multiple language options within WorkLink would be extremely useful. My US based team and I are developing Work Instructions for some industrial manufacturing equipment that is used around the world. Since all of our scenarios are being developed in English, we are struggling with how best to distribute this library on a global scale. I have had inquiries from some of our offices in other regions asking if the Work Instructions that we are building can be translated for them to use in their native language. While it might be easy enough to copy and paste text into Google Translate, we currently have 100+ Scenarios that would require translation into multiple languages. It would be much easier to control our library and extend this program to a global audience if users were able to select their native language and WorkLink could automatically display the text in that selected language instead of needing to manually translate each scenario by creating a duplicate. Having native language support would also potentially enable my team and I to collaborate with our regional offices in Japan and Europe on the development of future scenarios.
If manually translating each scenario and having multiple versions of each one is the only way of achieving this, we would definitely need to have the ability to organize scenarios into a folder structure and control user access to content based on folders. This way users can easily be given access to folders of scenarios that have all been translated into their preferred language and we would not need to manually search through our library for the right version of the scenario when assigning user access.
Thanks,
Steve Laslo

Hi Steve,
Great to hear more about this from your perspective and thanks for sharing details about how you would use WorkLink to distribute your content around the world. I've documented this as a part of our product discovery, but certainly reach out to your Customer Success Manager to let them know how important this is.
Thank you,
James

Hello,
I would like to revisit this request. Has there been any updates on this or has it been discussed internally?0 -
Hi Brendan,
Thank you for reaching out to check in about this functionality. Automatic language translation is still in our product roadmap as something we would like to address, but is not scheduled yet. Currently authors would need to duplicate projects and translate to have multiple languages.
Best,
Erin
