Create Authoring: Triangle Count Optimization
Upon importing, your CAD will automatically be reduced to a usable number of polygons but did you know you can target that specifically!
By right-clicking the .zip in your Personal Assets you can select the "Optimize Asset" button to begin. If you're looking to decrease the poly count further you can navigate to the "Advanced" tab of the Asset Optimizer. You can then add a new name of the file that will be output, add an operation, and select the node you'd like to reduce the poly count of. In the category "Triangle count reduction" you'll find different options to decimate to an algorithmically determined level of quality or you can target an input total poly count you'd like to achieve.
Making the choice between using the quality reduction or target reduction mostly depends on the parts level of detail needed. If you're using a highly detailed asset and you need to preserve that detail for your authoring then a first pass using the quality settings may be enough. The level of quality is esentially the strength of the process. A low quality decimation will only clean up densely triangulated areas and not do much for the overall model. A high level operation on the other hand will do it's best to knock down the triangle count as much as possible while keeping the original shape of the object.
A Targeted polygon count is one of the most powerful operations that Create's asset optimizer offers. This is best used after an initial quality pass has been performed and you still need to bring the poly count lower. It can also be used to target specific nodes in the structure to bring the more in-line with the rest of the model. Simply input the total number of polygons you'd like to achieve with this operation and begin.
Once the optimization process has begun, you can view the progress by navigating to Window > 3D Asset Optimizer. Once the process has finished you'll get a notification in the top right of your screen. You'll now see a white dropdown arrow next to your original CAD with your newly optimized assembly.
