Create Authoring: Material Asset Controls
When first starting out with a project in Create it can be helpful to make a few custom materials to help delineate and differentiate parts in your 3D asset. At this limited number it can make sense to simply click the material name and scroll to find a new material. In larger projects that require multiple material changes this individual click and scroll can become tedious.
What if I told you there was a tool to rapidly find and apply the same material to multiple objects? And what if I told you it was located just to the right of where you’re already looking?
As a quick tip today I wanted to highlight the utility of the triangle, circle, and X in the material section of the object properties window.
If you find a material you want to reapply to multiple objects simply click the middle circle icon to select it in the asset library. Then select a new object and click the left triangle to apply the selected material. If you want to quickly clear all materials from an object simply use the X on the right.
Lastly, if you want to do the opposite and see all parts that are using any given material, simply click the center circle twice to have it highlighted and right click it in the asset library and click the ‘Select Objects Using Material’ option.
Now you have a highlighted list of every part using that material and can quickly change all of them using the same process we went through earlier!
