12 - Modeling - Front Panel
Setup and Layer Management
- Select the scan
- Open Layer Explorer
- Create a new layer called Scans
- Assign the scan to the Scans layer
- Change the active layer back to Default
Modeling the Red Panel
- Enable Auto Grid
- Create a Box on the Home Grid
- Align it to the front and top views
- Convert it to Editable Poly
- Adjust size to match reference
- Enable X-Ray Mode (Alt+X)
- Fine-tune alignment with the scan
- Cut the shape using the Cut Tool
- Adjust vertices for proper chamfers
- Bevel the inset for the black panel
- Detach the inset for separate material assignment
Power Button
- Create a Box for the power switch
- Align it using Shift+A
- Resize based on the reference
- Adjust pivot to allow rocking motion
- Add an inset to create a distinct edge
- Auto Smooth to define shape
- Create a transparent plastic cover using a scaled Box
CO Detection Light
- Create a small box for the sticker
- Inset to create a red outline
- Detach to separate red and gray stickers
- Add a small cylinder for the light
- Reduce sides count for optimization
- Align it properly below the red sticker
Outlet Flaps
- Duplicate a Box for flaps
- Adjust size to fit the scan reference
- Move pivot to the top edge for proper rotation
- Copy and align for multiple outlet covers
Indicator Lights
- Create a black cylinder as the base
- Copy and resize for the light inside
- Add another transparent cylinder for the cover
- Delete the back face of the cover to avoid conflicts
- Enable X-Ray (Alt+X) for clarity
- Copy and reposition for other indicator lights
- Add a small bevel for detail differentiation
Final Checks
- Unhide all objects (excluding the scan)
- Verify alignment and proportions
- Confirm pivot placements for interactive elements
- Ensure separate materials for red, black, and transparent parts
- Prepare for next phase: Modeling the Top Section
