Understanding Pivot Points in 3DS Max 🎯
📌 What is a Pivot Point?
A pivot point is the center of transformation for an object—it defines where the object rotates, moves, and scales from.
🛠 Adjusting an Object’s Pivot Point
1️⃣ Select an Object
2️⃣ Go to the Hierarchy Tab.
3️⃣ Click Effect Pivot Only (Now you can move the pivot without moving the object).
4️⃣ Use Move, Rotate, and Snap (S key) to adjust the pivot.
5️⃣ Click Effect Pivot Only again to commit your pivot position.
✅ Common Uses:
- Snapping a pivot to a corner or edge for precise scaling.
- Moving the pivot to the bottom of an object for accurate placement.
- Setting the pivot at a rotation point (e.g., for hinges or mechanical parts).
🛠 Working Pivot: A Temporary Pivot Point
1️⃣ Click Edit Working Pivot.
2️⃣ Move the working pivot wherever you need it.
3️⃣ Use it to rotate/move objects from that point.
4️⃣ Click Reset Working Pivot to return the working pivot to the world origin or to the pivot location of the currently selected object.
✅ Why Use It?
- When you don’t want to affect the object’s real pivot.
- Helps with precision modeling (e.g., rotating multiple objects around a custom center).
