08 - Edit Spline
π― Editing Splines in 3DS Max β Essential Tools for Proxy Modeling
When working with lines and splines, itβs important to understand how to manipulate their vertices to create smooth, precise shapes.
Vertex Types in Edit Spline Modifier
1οΈβ£ Smooth β Creates a gradual, curved transition between connected vertices. Ideal for flowing curves.
2οΈβ£ Corner β No smoothing, just sharp angles between points. Useful for rigid structures.
3οΈβ£ Bezier β Adds two adjustable handles that control the curve. Moving one handle moves the other in an equal and opposite direction, maintaining smooth transitions.
4οΈβ£ Bezier Corner β Independent control over each handle, allowing for sharp transitions or asymmetrical curves. Perfect for custom shaping.
β¨ Fillet Tool β Quick Rounding for Handles & Frames
πΉ Purpose: Softens sharp corners by creating a rounded transition between two edges.
β How to Use:
- Select one or more vertices on a spline.
- Click the Fillet tool.
- Drag to smooth out the sharp corners.
π‘ Pro Tip: Works great for creating rounded handles or soft frame edges in the generator proxy model!
π Application β Using Lines for Generator Frame & Handles
- Start with a basic line to block out the frame.
- Use Fillet to round out the handles.
- Apply a Radial Thickness to convert the line into a 3D tube.
- Convert to Edit Poly for further refinement.
