Modeling the Fuel Tank & Components
1. Saving & Versioning the Project
- Save as generator_01 inside a Max folder.
- Use File → Save As → (+) button to auto-increment versions.
2. Creating the Top Panel
- Unhide the reference scan for accuracy.
- Create a box with AutoGrid.
- Center it using snaps and align to the front panel.
- Adjust position & convert to Edit Poly.
- Extend & adjust edges to fit the design.
3. Creating the Back Panel
- Duplicate the front panel and reposition it.
- Shift-drag to extend the back panel outward.
- Adjust vertices for proper alignment.
- Chamfer edges for curvature.
4. Modeling the Fuel Spill Catch & Fuel Spout
- Inset, extrude, and bevel for the shape.
- Create an octagonal cutout using an 8-sided cylinder.
- Rotate cylinder 22.5° for proper orientation.
- Convert to Edit Poly, delete unnecessary faces.
- Bridge the cylinder to the top panel.
5. Adding the Fuel Cap
- Create a cylinder and align to the center.
- Use Inset & Extrude to shape the cap.
- Convert to Edit Poly, separate as a new object.
- Add a Shell Modifier to give the cap thickness.
6. Creating the Fuel Gauge
- Create a box for the gauge base.
- Duplicate & scale for the inset display.
- Inset & extrude to form the screen area.
- Add a float inside the gauge window.
- Adjust alignment & scale for accuracy.
7. Modeling the Bottom of the Fuel Tank
- Inset & scale down to form the bottom.
- Ensure it doesn’t clip through the back panel.
- Adjust proportions to match reference images.
